French Apple Pie

Pastry for 10 inch pie
1 tbls Watkins Vanilla Dessert Mix
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
2 tbls Watkins Butterscotch Dessert Mix
1 tsp Watkins Cinnamon
1/2 tsp Watkins Nutmeg
1/4 tsp Watkins Allspice
1/4 tsp salt, if desired
7 to 8 cups thinly sliced, peeled, tart apples(Greening, Granny Smith, Rome Beauty or Winesap)
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1/4 cup butter or margarine

Prepare pastry, using favorite recipe or mix (frozen is also fine). Add Vanilla Dessert Mix to pastry ingredients and proceed as usual. Place pastry in pie plate; trim and flute edge. Combine 3/4 cup sugar and next 7 ingredients. Fill pastry with apple mixture. Mix remaining ingredients until crumbly; sprinkle over apples. Bake on lower oven rack at 400° for 40 - 50 minutes. Lightly cover pastry with foil to prevent burning; remove foil last 10 - 15 minutes of baking.

Serve with grated cheese, ice cream, or sweetened whipped cream.
